  • Do split-system units come pre-charged with refrigerant?

Yes, all Carrier and Toshiba split system air conditioners come pre-charged with R410a refrigerant. The standard refrigerant charge can support up to an 8m pipe run. If your installation requires more than 8m of pipe between the indoor and outdoor unit your installer may need to add refrigerant. Please see installation guide for specifics.

  • Can I install my split system by myself?

Unless you are a qualified air- conditioner installer this is not recommendedas it will void your warranty and is extremely dangerous. All Carrier and Toshiba split systems must be installed by qualified air conditioner installers.

  • Can trees or shrubs be planted near the outdoor unit?

Trees and shrubs can be planted near the air conditioners outdoor unit but it is recommended around 3 meters clearance as a rule of thumb. If there is not significant room for air circulation, the outdoor unit can overheat and sustain major damage. This may also void all warranties for the unit.

  • Do I need to maintain my air conditioner?

    Maintenance
Evaporative coolers: the newer ones self-drain but they still need flushing periodically and the pads also require changing when they begin to rot. They also need the water distribution cleaned or you can lose cooling due to the pads drying out.
Air Conditioners: the return air filters require cleaning or replacing. The frequency depends on how dusty the house is. If not cleaned the unit can ice up and cause internal problems. This may also void warranty. They also need the condenser dust free with an unobstructed air flow. This can be cleaned by brushing in the direction of the fins or blowing it out using compressed air. Ensure the drain outlet is unrestricted. Wipe the surface of the inside unit down at regular intervals as they do gather dust
